Claude Monet (1840)

A French landscape painter, Monet helped found the Impressionist movement in the late 19th century. In fact, the term “Impressionism” is derived from the title of one of his paintings, Impression: Sunrise. His renowned plein air, or outdoor, paintings capture natural landscapes with accents of sunlight and vibrant colors. To show the effects of changes in light, he often painted the same subject repeatedly, at different times of day and in different seasons. What are some examples? Discuss
